Jean-Baptiste Duvernoy
A 19th-century French pianist and teacher, Duvernoy is known for his collections of easy studies, especially the École primaire Op. 176.
Little is known about Jean-Baptiste Duvernoy’s life: a pianist and teacher active in Paris in the 19th century, he should not be confused with other musicians of the same name. His dates of birth and death vary between sources.
He left many teaching collections, including the École primaire Op. 176 (25 easy studies) and the École du mécanisme Op. 120, still widely used in music schools, particularly in France and Japan.
His studies are short, tuneful and carefully graded: an ideal step between the very first pieces and the studies of Czerny or Burgmüller.
