Felix Horetzky (1796–1870)

A Polish guitarist trained in Vienna, Felix Horetzky spent his last years in Edinburgh; he left many airs and arrangements for guitar.

Feliks Horecki (Felix Horetzky) was a Polish guitarist of the early 19th century. He perfected his playing in Vienna, then the guitar capital thanks to Mauro Giuliani, and toured as a performer before settling in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he taught and died in 1870.

His works are mostly short pieces: national airs, melodies from operas or by other composers (Rossini, Beethoven…) arranged for guitar, little dances and variations. Several have come down to us through the Boije collection in Stockholm, a large archive of guitar music.

These miniatures are ideal for learning to make a melody sing over a simple bass.
