Sonata in A minor K. 148 (L. 64)
Domenico Scarlatti · Level 4 (Intermediate) · Baroque · Piano
A melancholy, tender Andante sonata in 3/8 in A minor, with an ornamented melody over an even bass. One of the 555 one-movement sonatas Scarlatti wrote for the harpsichord, usually in two repeated halves, brilliant and full of Iberian colour. A minor, 3/8, 104 bars (about 2 minutes), complete score.

How to practise it
- Listen first: the site plays it while the score scrolls.
- Wait mode: the score waits for you at every note, at your own pace.
- Tempo challenge: play in time, with a score and a map of the bars you got right.
- Let the melody sing and keep the eighth-note bass calm and even. Light, precise touch, loose wrists in the repeated notes and hand crossings. One hand sometimes plays two voices: hold the long notes for their full value and let the main line sing louder than the accompaniment. Triplets and other tuplets must be perfectly even: count them aloud with the metronome.
