Raga in open D
Note after Note · Level 3 (Late beginner) · study · Guitar, sheet music and tablature
An original study in the spirit of the American primitive guitar “ragas” (Fahey, Robbie Basho, Jack Rose): an open D drone in the thumb and a modal tune in D Mixolydian (C natural) on the treble strings, climbing to the 12th fret.

How to practise it
- Listen first: the site plays it while the score scrolls.
- Wait mode: the score waits for you at every note, at your own pace.
- Tempo challenge: play in time, with a score and a map of the bars you got right.
- The thumb plays the low D (6th string) and middle D (4th string) open, never stopping: that is the drone. The C natural (2nd string fret 3, 1st string fret 10) gives the modal colour. Bar 9: the hand moves up to 12th position (high D), then comes back down the 1st string.
