Pastorale in open C

Note after Note · Level 2 (Beginner) · study · Guitar, sheet music and tablature

An original slow waltz in open C (C-G-C-G-C-E), the richly resonant tuning loved by “primitive” guitarists: an open low C on every downbeat, ringing open strings, and a simple tune that climbs to the 8th fret.

How to practise it

  • Listen first: the site plays it while the score scrolls.
  • Wait mode: the score waits for you at every note, at your own pace.
  • Tempo challenge: play in time, with a score and a map of the bars you got right.
  • Open C: 6th string down two whole steps (C), strings 5 and 4 down a whole step (G, C), 2nd string down a step and a half (high C). The thumb plays the low C, then the open 3rd string (G) on beats 2 and 3. Never mute the open strings: everything should ring, like a bell.
