August Eberhard Müller (1767–1817)
German organist, pianist and teacher, Cantor of St Thomas’s in Leipzig — Bach’s former post — then Kapellmeister in Weimar.
August Eberhard Müller was trained from an early age by his father, an organist. He first worked as an organist and pianist, notably in Magdeburg and then Leipzig.
In Leipzig he worked at St Thomas’s Church and became Cantor in 1804, the post Johann Sebastian Bach had held. He left Leipzig in 1810 to become Kapellmeister at the court of Weimar.
A respected teacher, he published a frequently reissued piano method and studies. He also composed concertos and pieces for flute, as well as keyboard works in an elegant Classical style.
His small pieces, like the Siciliano on this site, offer songful music without excessive technical difficulty, ideal for working on phrasing.
