Denis Joly
An early 19th-century musician about whom very little is known; a “Tyrolienne” for guitar by him survives in the Swedish Music Library.
Biographical information on Denis Joly is scarce and unreliable, and we prefer not to invent any. His piece on this site comes from an old edition kept at the Swedish national music library (Statens musikbibliotek).
The tyrolienne is a triple-time dance inspired by Tyrolean songs, very fashionable in early 19th-century salons, with melodic leaps that imitate yodelling.
